What business day calculator does

A business day calculator is only useful if it knows your calendar, so this one asks for it. Paste your company or country holiday list into the second box, one date per line, and it is applied to every calculation. Without a holiday list the answer is a weekend calculation dressed up as a working-day one.

The weekend itself is configurable, because Saturday and Sunday is a local convention rather than a universal one — Friday and Saturday across much of the Middle East, Sunday alone in several places. Two modes are offered: count the working days in a range, or add a number of business days to a date and see where it lands.

Because there is no such thing as a universal holiday list. They differ by country, by region within a country, by industry, and by year — and many organisations have their own closure days on top. A built-in list would be wrong for most users quietly, which is worse than asking.

Yes. Counting working days in a range means counting every working day from the first date to the last, both included, because that is what "how many working days is this project" means. It is deliberately the opposite convention to the elapsed-days difference calculator.

It is not double-counted — the day is already non-working. The summary reports holidays that fell on a working day separately, which is also the number you need when deciding whether a substitute day applies.
